As a Software company we use DLNA tools every day to ensure our software is compliant and running well. The tools are part of our software testing process and are automated so we can easily reduce our own effort to write test cases. –Joerg Eggink, ACCESS

Access to the DLNA Test Tools has been cited as a top reason why companies join DLNA. Created and maintained at a great cost to the organization, the Conformance Test Tool (CTT), Media Capabilities Verification Tool (MCVT), and Golden Devices are offered to Members free of charge. Multiple copies of these tools can be obtained, allowing various teams within one company to test at the same time. The CTT has been perfected as an easy-to-use tool that tests each DLNA Guideline supported by the product in development, while the MCVT allows Members to verify if a device correctly implements the operations performed during media playback. The Golden Digital Media Server (DMS) and Digital Media Controller (DMC) provide a complete server and controller for testing to all Members.

Video Demonstration of the DLNA Test Tools

Access to the DLNA Test Tools has been cited as a top reason why companies become DLNA Members. This video provides an overview of the DLNA test tools and a live demonstration of how they work.

Automated testing with the DLNA Certification Test Tools can help your company create higher quality products while spending less on QA. Ideal for continuous integration and Agile software development, automation also makes development faster by finding errors more quickly and earlier in the development process.

NEW - HTML5 Test Suite

TV and mobile device manufacturers, as well as embedded browser vendors, can now test for HTML5 compliance using an embedded-specific test suite based on the W3C Test Suite. Added features include:

  • simplified tool that uses adaptive web design to allow the UI to scale to different types of devices
  • ability to use only the keyboard, specifically only the direction keys and enter/select, so it is well suited to being used from a typical TV remote
  • ability to push results to a server as the tests are being performed, eliminating the need to have local storage in the device being tested and centralizes the collection of test results

Conformance Test Tool

  • The CTT is an easy-to-use tool that tests each DLNA Guideline supported by the product in development.
  • With the help of this tool, the test operator can check if the device complies with the DLNA Guidelines based on the feature set supported by the product.
  • Implements media alignment and scaled files to realistically simulate actual devices.

New IPv6 functionality enables members to test their IPv6 devices and ensures DLNA devices are future proofed.

As DLNA expands in to the cloud, it is more important than ever that IPv6 is supported to ensure continued interoperability as the internet moves over to IPv6. The IPv6 guidelines, required for DLNA 4.0, are also fully backward compatible with IPv4 ensuring DLNA 4.0 Certified devices continue to interoperate with legacy DLNA devices. Testing for IPv6 is now available with the Conformance Test Tool.

Media Capability Verification Tool

  • The MCVT is used to verify if the device correctly implements the operations performed during media playback.
    • For example, if the device can perform operations such as play, stop, pause, seek and scan, this tool will verify if the device correctly performs the operations using DLNA methods such as connection stalling, byte-based seek, time-based seek, and play speed as supported.
  • The MCVT allows device vendors the ability to verify that each media format profile will perform all operations successfully for all possible methods that the device supports.
  • Implements media alignment and scaled files to realistically simulate actual devices.

Link Protection Test Tool

  • The LPTT tests the Link Protection Guidelines (DLNA DTCP-IP Guidelines) for compliance.
  • The LPTT is based on CTT, but the CTT covers Architecture and Protocols and the LPTT covers the Link Protection Guidelines.

Note: LPTT is provided only to Members who have a current DTLA license and hold Adopter Status.

Golden Digital Media Server (DMS)

  • DLNA provides a complete media server for Interoperability testing to all Members.
  • The Golden DMS is fully configurable and therefor all certifiable DLNA media format profiles and all DLNA methods (http-Get, Byte Range, Time, Connection Stalling and Play Speed) can be tested.

Golden Digital Media Controller (DMC)

  • DLNA also provides a complete media controller for testing to all Members.
  • All DMR and DMS devices can be tested against the Golden DMC for interoperability.

With the exception of the LPTT, these tools are free of cost to Members and are easily downloadable from the DLNA Members website. Companies can obtain multiple copies which allow various teams to test at the same time. DLNA Staff is available to assist Members with the Test Tools throughout their product development life cycles.
