DLNA to Introduce Software Certification Program

Products Running DLNA Certified® Software will Work with Range of DLNA Certified® Devices

INTERNATIONAL CES 2010, January 7, 2010 – The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) today announced the development of a certification program for consumer software. The addition of the DLNA Certified® logo to consumer software in 2010 will make it even easier for consumers to enjoy digital videos, photos and music throughout their daily lives.

ABI Research has predicted that cumulatively, nearly one billion DLNA Certified® devices will be shipped by 2012. Nevertheless, there are many older, network-enabled consumer electronics and media devices that are not DLNA Certified®. With DLNA Certified® software, consumers will not only be assured that the product they choose will work with the more than 6,000 DLNA Certified® devices, but can take devices within their home networks that may not be certified and bring them into their personal DLNA ecosystems.

"There has been strong industry demand for the certification of consumer software,” said Scott Smyers, chairman of the DLNA board of directors and a senior vice president of Sony Electronics Inc. "Over the last few years, many companies have been working to develop ‘DLNA-compatible’ software, but it couldn’t be certified for interoperability on a DLNA network.”

DLNA Certified® products adhere to DLNA Interoperability Guidelines and have met stringent interoperability tests. By the end of 2010, consumer software will join the list of personal computers, TVs, mobile devices and printers that are already certified.
