PORTLAND, OR – April 22, 2013 – The Digital Living Network Alliance ® (DLNA ®) has awarded 10 individuals with Outstanding Contribution Awards for leadership and drive within the Alliance. The DLNA Board of Directors recognizes the work of industry leaders whose efforts have impacted the organization and helped in the fulfillment of its mission.
“DLNA is a cross-industry consortium of companies united by a shared vision of truly interoperable products within the networked digital home,” said Nidhish Parikh, president of DLNA and chairman of the DLNA Board of Directors. “The Alliance is where it is today due to the expertise, determination and commitment of our individual members and their companies .”
The annual award program recognizes individuals nominated by peers within the Alliance. Recipients are selected by the Board of Directors and presented with statuettes recognizing their commitment.
In accepting DLNA’s Outstanding Contribution Awards, here is what recipients shared about their recognition and involvement in the Alliance:
Barbara Stark, lead member of the technical staff, AT&T : “Through DLNA, AT&T is working with others in the industry to create a world where consumers are able to enjoy the content of their choice on the products of their choice. I am honored to be recognized for my contributions to the Alliance and look forward to continuing the work .”
Ryan Chiang, senior standardization lead, CableLabs : “The cable industry is a strong supporter of DLNA. CableLabs has been working with DLNA members to enable delivery of high value cable content to DLNA products. Together, we create seamless interoperability of home devices, which when coupled with great content is a winning combination for consumers. I am honored to be recognized for my cont ributions by the Alliance.”
Patrick Ladd, senior director of standards, Comcast : “Comcast is keenly interested in the work being done by DLNA and is proud to sponsor and contribute to the Alliance. These efforts to improve the consumer experience through interoperability, high quality premium content and accessibility are very important to Comcast.” Mike Ward, director of Sound Platform, Dolby : “Dolby is a long-standing member of DLNA and is a strong supporter of the Alliance's goal to allow consumers to easily share media in today's connected home. I am very honored to be recognized for my contributions to developing new DLNA Guidelines to enable support for the latest media content formats, and I look forward to my continued participation in DLNA's work.”
Ted Laverty, senior director of corporate strategy and development, DTS : “I am honoured to receive this recognition from the DLNA Board. DTS is proud to be a member of DLNA and we appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the many important efforts being made. As consumer awareness of DLNA continues to grow, reliable interoperability between consumers' connected products and digital content will remain a key priority for DLNA, and we at DTS look forward to continuing our support.”
Jed Johnson, fellow of the technical staff, Google : “I’m honored to be recognized by the Alliance for my contributions to DLNA’s premium content guidelines. The digital home continues to become more prevalent in people’s everyday lives, and we expect to see a rapid shift in the way people interact with digital content. DLNA is at the forefront of enabling consumers to embrace a fully connected lifestyle, as well as allow service providers to easily deliver these services to the end user. I look forward to working with the Alliance to improve its interoperability standards and guidelines.”
Jacek Minko, CTO, iLook Corporation : “iLook, together with other DLNA members, is working to bring greater consumer content choices to any DLNA Certified® screen through the ongoing development of the DLNA Guidelines. ”
Kim Lewis, marketing program manager, Intel : “Intel has been a member of the DLNA Board of Directors since its formation 10 years ago and has made many contributions t o ensure the standards’ success. Personally I have participated in the Marketing Work Group – both as a representative for Intel and as its chair. In this capacity I have worked hard to ensure market awareness and commitment to DLNA Guidelines and certifications. Intel remains committed to the success of DLNA and we enjoy our strong collaboration and dialogue with other leading companies spanning multiple industries.”
Bernard Peigné, senior standardization manager for the Digital Home, Orange : “For service providers, the end-to-end quality of user experience is key for the delivery of premium content and services to a wide range of connected products. This is why Orange contributed actively to the enhancement of the DLNA framework , notably through the introduction of a diagnostic feature, and took a leadership role with regards to low power management, a must-have function in Europe. ”
Graham Clift, senior staff engineer, Sony Electronics : “Sony, working closely with key partners in the cable and CE industry space, is proud to have contributed towards a truly unified remote user interface standard for the delivery of services into the home. Sony and its partners recognized HTML5 as a solution that unites service provider and consumer electronics companies, and chose DLNA in recognition for their lead as an open standards body that delivers the best device and service interoperability.”
